MADISON – At Kidtowne, parents can drop off their children on a come-and-go basis or take advantage of flexible, full-time child care service.

“We’ve been interested in finding a fresh, creative approach to using our love for children in an exciting way to serve families’ diverse needs in child care,” Andrew Walker said.

Walker and Joey Derr own KidTowne, a locally owned business located at 97 Hughes Road, Suite A.

“We decided to locate in Madison because it’s such a family-focused community,” Walker said. “Parents seem very interested in quality opportunities for their children. Madison is a community suited for growth and ready for forward-thinking business approaches.”

Walker and Derr have been involved with early childhood and elementary education for many years. Walker has been a preschool teacher for four years. A father of four, Derr has been an elementary school principal for nine years and was a classroom teacher for seven years.

KidTowne offers full-time preschool programs, part-time care and hourly drop-in care for children six weeks to 12 years old. Contracts or reservations aren’t required. Flexible rates are based on hours needed in one week.

In regular preschool, children pursue cognitive, emotional, social and physical activities, based on national standards in early childhood education. “Our curriculum director plans and monitors activities for infants, toddlers and preschoolers,” Walker said.

After school, certified staff assists with the Homework Help program. On Friday nights, the children can enjoy popcorn and a movie and play games, puzzles and Wii. A breakfast club on weekends has group games and watches Netflix.

“We have top-notch security. Visitors (must) be buzzed in by the desk attendant,” Walker said. Security cameras are active throughout the facility.

Children check in/out by fingerprint reader. Kidtowne has fire, storm, evacuation and lockdown plans.

Hours are Monday-Thursday from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday 6 a.m. to midnight, Saturday 9 a.m. to midnight and Sunday noon to 10 p.m.
