HUNTSVILLE – Sci-Quest Hands-on Science Center is now registering for spring break camps.

Offered March 24-28, the Sci-Quest camps will offer learning and fun for children in kindergarten through fifth grade. Subjects will include cooking, forensics, flight, electricity and scratch programming.

Kindergartners and first-graders can enjoy “Science: It’s What’s for Dinner” that incorporates the chemistry of cooking and after-dinner experiments. “Get on the Bus” runs the gamut from the solar system to the human body.

For second- and third-graders, “Science Sampler” will involve physiology, chemistry and electricity for the budding scientist. The “Flights of Fancy” camp will discuss birds, kites, gliders — even rocket launches.

Fourth- and fifth-graders can enroll in “CSI,” “Scratch Programming” and “It’s Electric.” “CSI” will be a real whodunit as young investigators apply ballistics, DNA and other types of evidence to solve a crime.

“Scratch Programming” is a project from the MIT Media Lab in which the youngsters will learn about the basics of object-oriented programming. The “It’s Electric” camp centers on electricity as campers make flashlights, burglar alarms and light up toys.

Morning camp hours are 9 a.m. to noon. Afternoon camps last from 1 to 4 p.m.

“As an added benefit for busy parents whose children are attending the camps, Sci-Quest offers early drop-off at 7:30 a.m. and late pick-up at 5:30 p.m.,” marketing manager Jennifer Deermer.

Parent must pre-register children in spring break camps before the requested camp program. Class sizes are limited.

Enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis. Sci-Quest members will receive a 10-percent discount.

Sci-Quest’s address is 1435 Paramount Drive in Huntsville. For more information, call 256-837-0606. To register online, visit sci-quest.org.
