Madison students win 7 state titles in Reflections, qualify for nationals

MADISON – Seven students in Madison City Schools have won at the state level in the Reflections fine arts contest and have advanced to national competition.

“We are very proud of our students and their accomplishment from Madison City,” Gun Abele and Melissa Laughlin said. “We wish all the best to those who now proceed to the national level.”

Abele and Laughlin served as Reflections co-chairpersons for the Madison City Council of PTAs.

Kyleena Ballash at Rainbow Elementary School received first place in dance choreography for the primary division. Also in choreography, Taylor Griffith at Rainbow was the first-place winner in the middle division.

In musical composition, Madison students dominated three divisions in the state submissions. James Eaton at Bob Jones High was first-place winner in the senior group. For intermediate, John Choung at Horizon Elementary School took second place. For primary, Chloe Song at Mill Creek Elementary School received second place.

In literature, Caroline Votroubok at Columbia Elementary School secured an honorable mention. Victoria Lee at Rainbow received an honorable mention for visual arts.

These students will be honored at a Reflections luncheon during the 95th annual Alabama PTA State Convention in Huntsville on May 3.

This year, all schools in the Madison district participated in Reflections. “At some schools, we saw the number of submissions explode,” Abele said. “Entries were judged at the city level, and the top entries are forwarded to the state level of judging.”

All entries are judged on artistic merit, creativity, mastery of the medium and interpretation of the theme. The state results were “an amazing accomplishment. We wish the best to those who now proceed to the national level,” Abele said.
