HARVEST – An Easter egg hunt will take on a pirate spin when Ford’s Chapel United Methodist Church presents their “Easter ‘Aargh’ Hunt.”

The ‘aargh’ hunt will involve “an afternoon filled with food, games, a treasure hunt and fun as kids follow clues to find the true treasure, Jesus Christ,” children’s director Kristin Todd said.

The hunt will be held on April 19, the Saturday before Easter, from 1 to 4 p.m. All youngsters are welcome to attend. Children can dress in pirate costumes, if they like.

Todd and church parents have thought of many details to combines pirates and Easter. “But we are not giving away all our surprises,” Todd said.

Each child will receive a treasure map with Bible verse clues to lead them to the location where “cross marks the spot,” she said. Treasure clues will be hidden in Easter eggs throughout a pirate maze.

In the maze, visual references will point to Bible verses about “miracles, the empty tomb and Jesus’ sacrifice and resurrection,” Todd said. “Kids will get to dig into ‘treasure’ that includes chocolate coins and glittering ‘jewels.'”

“Two words: pirate bunny,” Todd said.

Two-year-olds and younger will hunt Easter eggs and plant seeds in the Ford’s Chapel Community Garden, soon to be transformed into ‘Li’l Mateys’ Cove.’ Children will enjoy games like Walk the Plank, Hook Ring Toss and Fishing for Treasure.

An iPod, digital camera and more prizes will be given away.

“Last October, our last community outreach event, ‘The A-Maze-Ing Oz,’ was a tremendous success and drew crowds of 1,000 or more from Harvest and surrounding areas,” Todd said. “We expect the Aargh Hunt to be as big or bigger than Oz.”

For more information about the hunt, call Todd at 256-603-9621 or email to kristintodd3@gmail.com.

The church’s address is 280 Ford Chapel Drive in Harvest. For information about the church, visit fordschapel.org or Facebook/Ford’s Chapel United Methodist Church.
