Liberty recognizes Autism Awareness Month

MADISON – Madison Mayor Troy Trulock declared April as Autism Awareness Month at a ceremony at Liberty Middle School on April 7.

Trulock read the proclamation that stated the city’s focus on autism this month. For the ceremony, Liberty welcomed Debbie Debbie Bumbicka, program director of the Autism Society of Alabama and board member of The Autism Resource Foundation.

Liberty students Rashaunye Williams and Blaise Bradford read poems, including “The Face of Autism,” to the audience. Another student, Victoria Slayton representing the Helping Hands group at Liberty read the poem, “A Special Kind of Friend,” Liberty Assistant Principal Sylvia Lambert said.

Good Friends, Inc. presented the video, “We All Fit.”

Other participants included Liberty Principal Nelson Brown; Jamie Hill, Special Education Coordinator for Madison City Schools; Liberty students Drew Daniel, Correna Carden and Kollin Burkett; Stacey Greenhaw, The Cardinal School of Huntsville; and Liberty Special Resource Officer Jason Bolden.
