More road construction a sure thing at City Council meeting
Madison residents will see more construction on Wall-Triana as funding was finalized at the most recent City Council meeting.

Moving forward with a road project and updates on the Huntsville/Madison Emergency Management Agency were among the notable topics addressed at the most recent City Council meeting.
In addition to the construction scheduled to begin June 12 on the Mill Creek bridge on Wall-Triana, the section of Sullivan Street south of Main Street and north of Madison Boulevard will undergo upgrades in the coming weeks.
Gary Chynoweth, PE Director of Engineering for the city of Madison, directed Mayor Trulock to execute a Memorandum of Agreement with the county for the project’s funding. The city is using $275,000 from the Gas Tax Funds to combine with the county’s $75,000 contribution.
“It’ll be a lengthy process,” Chynoweth said of the paving project.
Chynoweth said the majority of the work will be done in the nighttime between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. and should last around two weeks. The Sullivan Street project will not commence, however, until the construction near Pension Row is finished. That project is slated to last only a few days.
In other business, John Rusty Russell of the Huntsville/Madison EMA briefed the Council on the county’s emergency preparedness and the progress the entity has made with its annual appropriation, or funds.
Russell mentioned the building and implementation of 130 safe rooms across the county in addition to four community shelters, including the efforts of the community in response to severe weather.
“Volunteer efforts are coming together more and more,” Russell said.
It was also brought to the council’s attention that the sirens’ alerts are slightly delayed due to the analog signals not completely meshing with the digital systems that operate them.
“That’s going to be one of the challenges is revamping the analog systems with the digital ones,” Russell said.
Madison City Council meetings are held the second and fourth Monday of each month at the Municipal Complex. Meetings are also broadcast via live stream through Knology.
