MADISON – Zach Nash decided to add an improvement at Liberty Middle School for the service project that led to his Eagle Scout award with Troop 7676.

Nash, now a senior at James Clemens High School, wanted to build picnic tables for the campus where he attended middle school.

“Originally, I was to build them for Mill Creek Elementary School but ended up making them for Liberty,” Nash said. “The tables are used for outside lunch and socializing.”

During construction, Nash and his work crew used saws, hammers, nails and wood. “The project took about two months to complete, totaling about 140 hours inclusive of everyone’s time added together,” he said.

Helping Nash with the project were Randy Nash, John Fellows, Jeff Cianciotto, Jacob Cianciotto, Doug Kim, Sung Kim, Josh Cianciotto and Eric Patterson.

“I have heard that Liberty is grateful to have the extra tables,” he said.

His parents are Randy and Beth Nash. He works as a logician, and she is an instructional partner at Weatherly Elementary School. Along with Zach, their children are Chelsea, 23, Austin, 20 and Allison, 16.

“To be honest, pressure of my parents” spurred Zach to vie for the Eagle rank. “As I got along doing it, though, I thought that it would be good for me and help me out in in the future on resumes, scholarships and so forth,” Zach said.

The Nashes moved from Huntsville to Madison in 2004. Zach also has attended Farley Elementary School and Bob Jones High School.

The Nash family attends The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

A Court of Honor honored Zach and five other Eagle Scouts in Troop 7676 of the Madison 3rd Ward congregation from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The church has been associated with the Boy Scouts of America for more than 100 years.

Currently, Troop 7676 has 36 scouts ranging in age from 11 to 18 years.
