MADISON – Karey Holcomb is no stranger to receiving awards. Several years ago, she was named Staff Member of the Year.

This year, Holcomb is James Clemens High School’s top staffer. In 2003, she earned the same recognition while working at Liberty Middle School.

Holcomb works as manager of the child nutrition program at James Clemens. “I coordinate and supervise the food service operation in accordance with state, federal and local policy,” she said.

“I love my job, the students and staff. I would not be able to do my job without the dedication of my staff,” Holcomb said.

“One of the most rewarding parts of my job is that I am able to provide quality nutrition for the students and staff at James Clemens,” Holcomb said. “It can be challenging to balance state and federal regulations with local needs and requests.”

Over the years, she has developed friendships with several students in the cafeteria line. “I look forward to seeing these students each day in the cafeteria,” Holcomb said.

She attended the College of Charleston. During her career, she has completed several classes related to food service. “I also have a catering background,” Holcomb said. “I enjoy being able to cater for school events.”

Holcomb has been employed with Madison City Schools since 1999. She formerly was the CNP manager at Liberty.

She is married to Kenneth Holcomb, who is employed with Energy Solutions. “We have four grown children, three grandchildren — with one more on the way,” Karey said.
