MADISON – Morgan Price is salutatorian for the Class of 2014 at Bob Jones High School.

Price earned a GPA of 5.18. She rated magna cum laude on the National Latin Exam and was an advanced-placement scholar with distinction.

Her favorite classes were AP Latin, U. S. history and physics “for the challenging curriculum but the teachers made them worthwhile.”

She acknowledged instructors Raymond Congo, Nelda Newell and Greg Duvall who “all had a passion for the subject they taught that rubbed off on me.”

“I was kind of a slacker but still did my fair share of studying. It’s all about balancing enough time between (classes) to still make A’s. Sometimes, I wouldn’t finish a homework assignment to study for a test. It’s all about the opportunity and cost,” Price said.

At Bob Jones, she was president of the Science National Honor Society, Latin Club, founder/president of National Social Studies Honor Society and held membership with Mu Alpha Theta, National Honor Society, Debate Team and national honor societies for English, Latin and forensics. She participated in track, cross country and soccer.

“I wouldn’t trade (those experiences) for anything,” Price said.

Price volunteers with children with disabilities in TOPsoccer and Making Waves swim club. She has devoted many hours to Huntsville Botanical Garden.

Her parents are Bradley and Laurie Price. He works as a defense contracting officer with Missile Defense Agency, and she owns Sassafras Stitching and Screen Printing. Morgan’s 21-year-old sister is a physical therapy graduate student at the University of South Alabama.

“I couldn’t have gotten anywhere without my family,” Morgan said. “They have always supported me through everything.”

“I enjoy being outside in my free time” to fish, visit the river and hike, Morgan said. “I enjoy reading, mostly sci-fi and fantasy novels. I run often. I spend any extra time with my friends and family.”

Price will use the Blount Elite Scholarship and Redstone Arsenal Community Women’s Club scholarships to study mechanical engineering at Auburn University.
