MADISON – The Painted Bra Art Project will present “Bras and Brews” at Blue Pants Brewery, 500 Lanier Road on Sept. 17 from 5 to 9 p.m.

The “BRAsterpiece” painting party will raise money for the Liz Hurley Breast Cancer Fund, affiliated with Huntsville Hospital Foundation. The event will promote breast cancer awareness and add a light-hearted approach to the serious subject.

Blue Pants will donate $1 for every beer sold.

Instead of painting a canvas, guests will paint a bra. Organizers hope to have several artists from different Madison schools to paint a school logo or design.

Lauretta Viglianco, receptionist with Madison City Schools, is a seven-year survivor of breast cancer. “I have tried my best over the years to support breast cancer awareness locally,” she said.

Viglianco and Anita Parker, an office staffer at Discovery Middle School, have recruited help from Anna Braden and other local artists. “We want to get local families involved to paint some bras and share a brew,” Viglianco said.

“At least four women in the Central Office have had breast cancer in recent years … all are going strong,” Viglianco said. “We have several whose mothers have experienced the same.” Many Madison teachers also have dealt with rigors of the disease.

The Painted Bra Art Project eventually will auction the ‘BRAsterpieces’ as a fundraiser for breast cancer research.

Food trucks from Earth & Stone Wood-Fired Pizza and SugarBelle Cupcakes will attend. The band, Phil and the Reps, will entertain the audience. Soft drinks and bottled water will be available.

“We provide all supplies for the bra painting party — just bring your idea with you,” Viglianco said. One lucky guest will receive a door prize. The most creative ‘BRAsterpieces’ will earn prizes.

“We’ll also have a 50/50 raffle and a silent auction so bring some cash or your checkbook,” Viglianco said.

Advance tickets purchased online (bluepantsbrew.com/brasandbrews) are $20 or $25 at the event. For more information, visit Facebook/The Painted Bra Art Project or Twitter @PaintedBraArt.
