NORMAL – Clayton A. Gibson has been named vice president for business and finance at Alabama A&M University.

A&M President Andrew Hugine Jr. announced the personnel change. Gibson has been serving in this position in an interim capacity for the past year.

“Mr. Gibson has provided exceptional leadership and management of the division,” Hugine said. “He has led the efforts to produce the external audit on time and presented a budget, which was approved by the board of trustees.”

In other accomplishments, Gibson has launched an online gifting program, along with online procedures for travel, “which has streamlined the process and will result in significant savings to the university,” Hugine said.

In making the appointment, Hugine added that he was most impressed by Gibson’s “visionary leadership, encompassing of technology in improving the operations of the division and the university, and his creative, innovative approach to addressing issues and problems.”

Gibson is a certified public accountant (CPA) and has numerous years of experience in public accounting from his work at Ernst & Young LLP, where he was an audit manager and provided consultative guidance to Fortune 500 companies.

Previously in work at A&M, Gibson served as the university’s internal auditor. Hugine said he has confidence that Gibson will continue to provide “exceptional performance in his new role.”

Gibson earned a master’s degree in accounting at the University of Notre Dame. He and his wife Aliya are parents of two sons, Chase and Carter.
