TRIANA – The Care Assurance System for the Aging and Homebound (CASA) of Madison County will host the 2014 Triana Health Fair on Oct. 7.

The health fair will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at St. Paul-Triana United Methodist Church. The church is located at 620 Sixth St., just east of Zierdt Road.

Residents of Madison and Triana are encouraged to attend and discover resources that are available through various organizations and companies in Madison County.

The health fair will open with a breakfast from 8:30 to 9 a.m. A discussion on methods to manage high blood pressure will be given from 9:45 to 10:30 a.m.

Representatives from the Better Business Bureau will present “Avoiding Scams” from 11:15 a.m. to noon. Chef Will the Palate will demonstrate cooking techniques that will be focused on healthy cooking options, along with offering food samples, from noon to 12:45 p.m.

CASA has invited local vendors and organizations that cater to the aging population to provide health and wellness information for senior citizens and their families. More than 15 vendors plan to attend and give presentations on important issues.

Walgreen’s will administer flu shots onsite at the fair, and coverage by most insurance companies will be accepted. Hearing tests will be available. Vendors will present door prizes.

The mission of CASA of Madison County is to provide needed services to aging and homebound individuals. This outreach allows these individuals to remain in their homes and age in place. Numerous service opportunities are open to volunteers throughout the year. (casamadisoncty.org)

CASA officials said the 2014 Triana Health Fair will offer an enjoyable morning out for visitors. For more information about the health fair, call Karla Thomas at 256-533-7775.
