HUNTSVILLE – The Joint Commission, the nation’s leading accreditor of health care organizations, has named Crestwood Medical Center as a 2014 Top Performer on Key Quality Measures.

The honor recognizes hospitals that excel at meeting the commission’s stringent measurements for exemplary patient care.

Crestwood has received the designation twice in recent years. The medical center in Huntsville is one of only 314 hospitals to achieve this accomplishment for three consecutive years.

“This honor means that our community can turn to Crestwood Medical Center with confidence, knowing that we strive to provide excellent care every day,” Crestwood CEO Dr. Pam Hudson said.

“Following evidence-based clinical protocols close to 100 percent of the time is not an easy goal to reach, but one that has been achieved through the dedication of our physicians, nurses and other caregivers,” Hudson said.

Crestwood sustained excellence in accountability measure performance for heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care.

“We are proud of our physicians and clinical staff for their hard work to provide safe, effective care across the hospital,” Crestwood Chief of Staff Dr. Edith Aguayo said. “The Joint Commission’s recognition of our efforts is very gratifying for our entire team.”

To qualify as Top Performer, hospitals had to achieve cumulative performance of 95 percent or above for all reported accountability measures. In addition, the hospital must have had at least one core measure set with a composite rate of 95 percent or above.

“Delivering the right treatment in the right way at the right time is a cornerstone of high-quality health care,” Dr. Mark R. Chassin said. Chassin serves as president and CEO of The Joint Commission. “I commend the efforts of Crestwood Medical Center for their excellent performance on the use of evidence-based interventions.”
