MADISON – As everyone flips the calendar to 2015, Madison Board of Education already has approved the calendar for the 2015-2016 school year.

To view the calendar, visit madisoncity.k12.al.us and click “School Year Calendars.”

Students will report to class on Aug. 5. Before this date, teachers will report for professional development on July 30-31 and Aug. 3-4. With a collaborative day on Sept. 4, students will attend a half-day and then have the day off on Labor Day, Sept. 7.

Madison City Schools will take the week of Oct. 5-9 as a fall break. On another collaborative day on Oct. 30, students will attend only a half-day. On Nov. 11, Madison will observe the Veterans Day holiday.

Schools will close for Thanksgiving on Nov. 25-27. The first semester ends and the 2015 winter break will begin on Dec. 18 after a half-day for students. Students will return to class on Jan. 6, 2016. Teachers will report for workdays on Jan. 4-5.

On Jan. 18, the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday will be observed with schools dismissed. Feb. 12 will be a collaborative day with students dismissed after a half-day, followed on Feb. 15 by the President’s Day holiday.

Spring break for the district in 2016 will be March 14-18. (Huntsville City Schools opted for a different week for spring break.) April 15 will be another collaborative day; students will be dismissed after a half-day.

The calendar includes two ‘weather days,’ April 29 and May 13. If the district doesn’t close due to inclement weather, the district will take these two days off.

Graduation ceremonies for seniors at both James Clemens and Bob Jones high schools will be held at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville on May 23. Second semester ends with a half-day for students on May 25.

Teachers will report for a workday on May 26.

Dismissal times for half-days will be 10:30 a.m. for pre-kindergarten; 11 a.m., elementary; and 11:45 a.m., middle and high schools.
