MADISON- Talk about close shaves, Bob Jones won their third area game of the season with no losses on Tuesday night with a 56-55 win over Sparkman. Remarkably, all three wins have come by one point.

“It feels good to be 3-0 in the area but we can’t continue to start slow and expect to win games,” Bob Jones coach Graham Aderholt said after the game. “We have got a lot of tough road games coming up starting Friday at Hazel Green.”

Sparkman bolted to a 10-2 lead behind two three pointers from Rashawn Green. Sparkman led 20-13 on a Brandon Miller steal and score. Bob Jones tied the game at 20 on a Devontae Mason three point shot. The game was tied at 24 at the half.

Ryan Dupree stepped up and led Bob Jones in scoring in the second half with 11, he had 15 in the game. Dupree started with a three point shot then followed with a three point play on a court length feed from Dalton Barkley and Bob Jones led 36-27, their biggest lead of the game. Sparkman tied it at 40 after three quarters.

“I thought our guys responded well coming out of halftime. We looked to be aggressive on offense and Ryan stepped up for us. He has been our go-to guy down the stretch late in games,” Aderholt said.

Bob Jones fell behind 50-44 but Dalton Barkley cut it to 52-48 with a basket in the paint. Barkley played with 4 fouls through most of the fourth quarter. He finished with 6 points.

Trailing 53-52 Dupree made the play of the game with a steal of an inbound pass and contested layup to put Bob Jones ahead. Jonathon Moss sealed it with two free throws.

Deondre Douglas finished with 8 points as he continued his strong play.

A strong bench has helped Bob Jones in close games. Devontae Mason had five points and is Aderholt’s top bench player.

“We’ve got some depth and they are doing a good job,” he said.
