Abreo nominated for ACT’s Student Readiness Award

MADISON – Josh Abreo has been nominated for the Student Readiness Award with the national 2015 ACT College- and Career-Ready Campaign.
Abreo is a senior at James Clemens High School.
Alabama State Department of Education announced the state nominees, which included individual students, businesses, high schools and colleges that focus on reaching career goals. ACT has partnered with Alabama and selected states for three years in the campaign.
The nominees’ backgrounds correlate to the state department’s strategic plan for education, “Plan 2020: Every Child a Graduate, Every Graduate Prepared for College, Work, Adulthood in the 21st Century.”
Abreo earned a ‘perfect’ 36 on the ACT. On the Stanford Achievement Test (SAT), Abreo rated a composite score of 2330 (possible 2400) and a ‘superscore’ of 2370.
At James Clemens, he is president of the Science National Honor Society and Chemistry Club. A National Merit Semifinalist, Abreo is Quiz Bowl team captain and a member of National Honor Society and cross-country team.
In the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair, Abreo was a finalist and special award winner. He was a finalist at the National Junior Science and Humanities Symposium.
Abreo earned first place in the Alabama State Science and Engineering Fair and was semifinalist with Siemens Competition for Math, Science and Technology. He volunteers at Crestwood Medical Center, Manna House and a local food bank.
A Madison native, Abreo said his parents, Dennis and Felicia Abreo, immigrated to the United States from India for higher education studies. Dennis Abreo works as a software engineer for Bentley Systems. Felicia Abreo works as a tax advisor at H&R Block. Josh’s 15-year-old sister Michelle is a James Clemens junior.
Among other ACT College- and Career-Ready Campaign nominees, New Century Technology High School in Huntsville was nominated as a magnet school that emphasizes STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics).
