MADISON – The Madison Gazebo Concert on June 11 will offer a double bill with Max Russell and Tres Locos.

Madison Arts Council (MAC) sponsors the Madison Gazebo Concerts, which are free and open to the public to enjoy. The downtown gatherings are held on Thursdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

A Florence native, Maxwell Russell grew up surrounded by the legacy of the sounds of Muscle Shoals recording fame. After learning to play guitar as a boy, he has organized bands and played solo at venues across the Southeast.

Russell’s music style has a country tone with a shake of blues and jazz. He also enjoys playing the classic beat of old-time rock ‘n roll. He has covered songs originated by Ike Turner, Muddy Waters, Carl Perkins and Stevie Ray Vaughan.

In Birmingham in 2006, Russell won first place in a contest among blues bands. He has recorded three CDs of blues music, straight from the Mississippi delta. He and his band, The Shakedown Kings, often play in the club scene. (sonicbids.com/band/theshakedownkings)

Tres Locos has been playing together since August 2013. The sound focuses on blues, jam and rock.

Members of the band are Mike Slaten on guitar and vocals; Matt Collins on drums, vocals and spoons; and Kasey Charles on bass. These men hail from Huntsville.

Tres Locos describes its sound as “psychedelic blues rock.” (Facebook/Tres Locos) Their music leans to the style defined by So Long Gemini, 5 O’Clock Charlie, Dave Anderson, Microwave Dave & The Nukes and Russell Gulley. The band likes to play charts popularized by The Deftones, Allman Brothers and Black Sabbath.

Concessions will be available from food vendors for a light supper and tasty dessert. Each week, a different MAC partner will host a free activity for children, MAC President Beth Ridgeway said.
