MADISON- In their first off-season competition the Bob Jones football team was explosive on offense and stingy on defense. The Patriots hosted 7A Hewitt-Trussville Monday in a 7 on 7 passing tournament. It was an officials training event so it did not count as a play date.

Quarterback Brady Polson, a junior, led the Bob Jones A team to two resounding victories; 40-8 and 36-11 in 20-minute games against Hewitt-Trussville’s A team.

He threw five touchdowns in game one and four in game two. Milkhi Stewart caught three touchdowns in game two.

Polson started six games last year. Most of the receivers will be starting their first varsity game this fall.

“Milkhi Stewart is playing really well,” Polson said during a break in the action. “Christian Phillips has gone up and got the ball well. The 7-on-7 is one of my favorite parts of the game, everybody has fun but it gets us prepared for situations we face in the season.”

Brad Anderson, Derek Marion, and Jonathon Moss also had touchdown catches.

Defensively Cameron Langham had an interception. Brandon Alexander and Milkyle Stewart are starting at cornerback and A.J. Harris is at safety.

Bob Jones will next go to Athens, Georgia for a 7-on-7 passing camp hosted by the University of Georgia.

Coach Kevin Rose said that he wanted his players to get use to the speed of the game before going to bigger competitions.

Hewitt Trussville brought 3 teams and Bob Jones had 3 so each team’s B team played each other and the C teams as well.

“With just the two teams there is not a lot of standing around,” Rose said. “Every kid out here is getting to play and getting repetitions. Its a great opportunity.”

Collins Hess quarterbacked the B team for Bob Jones and Carl Dorn the C team.

“He’s played outstanding today,” Rose said of Polson. “He’s an experienced quarterback now and we’re glad to have him back. You can do a lot of things offensively with an experienced quarterback.”

Rose is looking for receivers to fill the roles of departed seniors and Stewart is getting a lot of the coaches attention.

“He’s very talented,” Rose said of Stewart. “He didn’t play a lot last year as a 10th grader but I expect big plays out of him this year. This is very important for him to come out and show what he is capable of. He has always been a good athlete. The part he has to catch up to is the mental part of the game, the speed, getting lined up and running the right routes. He’s had a big day.”

Bob Jones will take the A and B teams to Georgia on June 12 and Auburn on June 20.
