MADISON – Groups specializing in vocal harmonies and instrumental music will headline the Madison Gazebo Concert on July 9.

Southern Splendor Chorus and Madison Community Band will perform.

Southern Splendor Chorus is an all-male a capella group affiliated with Barbershop Harmony Society. The singers have won “Most Improved Chorus” three times and third-place honors for “Small Chorus” in their Dixie district.

Members live as far east as Grant, west to Haleyville, north to White House, Tenn. and south to Cullman. Southern Splendor Chorus preserves the true American art form of wholesome a capella music in four-part harmony that inspires the performer as well as the audience.

The chorus has performed throughout the Tennessee Valley in Athens, Ardmore, Madison, Decatur, Cullman and Huntsville. Each February, chorus members provide ‘singing valentines’ as their major fundraiser.

Tommy Mitchell is chorus director.

Madison Arts Council (MAC) sponsors the free concert concerts at the gazebo at 6:30 p.m., usually wrapping up around 8:30 p.m. “Seating is not provided, so we encourage you to bring a lawn chair or blanket to relax under the shade trees,” MAC President Beth Ridgeway said.

Also performing on July 9, Madison Community Band is a 501(c)3 nonprofit public charity with instrumental musicians ranging in age from elementary students to retirees. Founded in 1993, the band allows these individuals to keep their musical ability alive and to perform live around the area.

The band has entertained at Panoply Arts Festival in Huntsville, Bridge Street Town Centre, Concerts by the River in Decatur, Host of Christmas Past Festival in Fayetteville, Tenn., Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga, Tenn., U.S. Space and Rocket Center, Lakeside Summer Concert Series in Guntersville and Guntersville State Park.

Dave Ryan is music director and conductor. For more information, visit m-c-b.org.

At the gazebo concert, food vendors will sell concessions. Each week, a different MAC partner hosts a free activity for children.
