HUNTSVILLE – The 2015 Space and Missile Defense (SMD) Symposium will include “Warriors to the Workforce” hiring and training workshops on Aug. 12 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The American Freedom Foundation and Still Serving Veterans are presenting the ‘warrior’ workshops.

The symposium on Aug. 10-13 will be held at the Von Braun Center’s East Hall in Huntsville. The event is among the largest defense exposition and professional development symposium in the Southeast. (smdsymposium.org)

“Our biggest challenge is making veterans aware of Warriors to the Workforce so we can help them in their job search and with the process of transitioning from military to civilian life,” American Freedom Foundation President Ted Hacker said.

The Warriors to the Workforce initiative has connected thousands of veterans to hundreds of participating companies for civilian employment opportunities, Hacker said. These sessions are free for veterans, active military personnel and their spouses. (americanfreedomfoundation.org)

In 2014, Warriors to the Workforce attracted more than 300 military members and veterans. Top speakers led workshops on crucial subjects to help military personnel. Reviewers critiqued resumes and advised veterans and their spouses.

To-date, companies registered to participate with Warriors to the Workforce are Armstrong Relocation, Calhoun Community College, Edward Jones, First Command Financial, Huntsville Career Center, ISSI UXO and Consulting, NMR Consulting, Phoenix, SimTech, Sigmatech, Still Serving Veterans, Teledyne, Weichert Realtors, Space Place, Verizon Wireless, Vet Center and Yulista Aviation.

The SMD Symposium is a leading educational and networking event in the space and missile defense community. Leaders and professionals from the United States and its allies attend the conference. Participants can conduct business face-to-face and earn credits in continuing education.

In addition to Warriors to the Workforce, key features of the 2015 symposium are the Modeling & Simulation Technology Track, an education expo for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), Defense Acquisition University (DAU) program and geospatial intelligence program.
