MADISON – With 25 years in education, Cindy V. Davis serves as District At-Risk Counselor for Madison City Schools (MCS).

Davis’ position resulted from a grant that Sharon Willis, MCS At-Risk Coordinator, secured from the Department of Defense in 2014.

The grant included an at-risk counselor to supervise Student 2 Student (S2S) and Junior Student 2 Student (JS2S) programs, school climate teams and Interactive/Take Action Program (TAP) Advisors.

“My work with S2S programs helps military-connected and civilian students,” Davis said. “JS2S/S2S members welcome new students and provide them with the critical edge for a successful transition.”

Davis collaborated with secondary schools to choose “a positive school climate program.” Using the Challenge Success program, faculties and families will “develop research-based strategies that provide students with academic, social and emotional skills to succeed.”

She also works with Interactive/TAP advisors at Bob Jones and James Clemens high schools. “These advisors provide assistance with college applications, interest inventories, career planning to military-connected students, at-risk students and other students,” Davis said.

Davis also has helped to create advisory advocate/advisee programs at all secondary schools.

Most of Davis’ time is spent in collaboration with secondary school principals, assistant principals, counselors, S2S/JS2S sponsors and Interactive/TAP Advisors. She assists in planning events, workshops and conferences and provides needed resources.

Davis graduated magna cum laude from Samford University with a bachelor’s degree in social studies and summa cum laude from the University of North Alabama with a master’s degree in education/school counseling.

A National Board Certified School Counselor, Davis was named Alabama Elementary School Counselor of the Year in 2006.

Retired after 25 years in education, her husband Mark is an instructor for Madison Driving Academy and coaches football at Saint John Paul II High School.

Their daughter Carissa is a Samford University senior and will graduate in 2016 with a degree in early childhood education/special education and elementary/elementary collaborative education. Daughter Briana, a University of North Alabama freshman, will study pre-dentistry.

Cindy leads a Sunday School class at Asbury United Methodist Church and creates scrapbooks for her daughters.
