HUNTSVILLE – Residents who have been looking to find a volunteer opportunity to serve other people can find a fulfilling option at The Salvation Army.

“Would you like to help serve lunch or dinner once a week at our community kitchen? The Salvation Army feeds hundreds of people daily, and volunteers play an important role,” community relations coordinator Lydia Pennington said.

The Salvation Army is looking for people that enjoy serving others and want to volunteer for a couple of hours weekly. “We have openings Monday through Friday at lunch and dinner,” Pennington said.

Lunch is served from noon to 1 p.m. Dinner hours are 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. “Volunteers typically arrive 30 minutes prior to mealtime and stay 30 minutes after to help clean,” Pennington said.

All kitchen volunteers must be at least 18 years old.

“There is currently an opening on the fourth and fifth Sundays of each month for any group that would like to join us,” she said. “The main mealtime is from 2 to 4 p.m. on the weekends.”

Individuals who want to volunteer can send email to salvationarmyvols@gmail.com and state their preference of days and times to work. “This is a wonderful way to directly assist others. Hopefully, volunteering at our community kitchen will become something you look forward to,” Pennington said.

The Salvation Army kitchen’s address is 305 Seminole Drive in Huntsville. The Salvation Army office is located at 2114 Oakwood Ave. NW in Huntsville.

For more information, call 256-536-5576, ext. 14, email to salvationarmyvols@gmail.com or visit salvationarmy.org.
