HUNTSVILLE – One of the acclaimed TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) talks is returning to Huntsville.

TEDxHuntsville 2015 is taking the theme “Dream Makers & Risk Takers.” Randolph School’s Thurber Arts Center at 4905 Drake Ave. SE in Huntsville will host the event on Sept. 13.

Doors will open at noon at Randolph with the TEDx event running from 1 to 5:30 p.m. A speaker reception will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Design Lab at Lincoln Mill on Meridian Street.

“TEDxHuntsville is a local derivative of TED, a nonprofit organization known for online talks,” Dwight Pope said. Pope works as marketing coordinator for TEDxHuntsville.

“Since 2009, local professionals and residents excited about ideas worth spreading have volunteered to bring TED to the Tennessee Valley area,” Pope said. “The team meets throughout the year, curating and planning for the annual TEDxHuntsville and TEDxYouth@Huntsville events, plus smaller intimate gatherings for live streams and TEDTalk sessions.”

TEDx supporters define a ‘dream maker’ as a visionary, an idealist or an individual who follows through with dreams or visions created in the imagination. A ‘risk taker’ is a person who can encounter situations with an exposure to danger but finds opportunities for rewarding outcomes.

TEDxHuntsville coordinators strive to bring awareness and participation to positive, engaging and local community projects. The local session will attract area artists, civic leaders, entrepreneurs and scientists who will share their insight.

These spokespeople will share their dreams of success, bouts with failure, stories of risks and lessons learned along the way. The audience will experience a slate of dynamic speakers, musical performances and hands-on sessions.

“Attendees will feel inspired, both by the ideas shared by our speakers and by the connections and conversations they evoke throughout the day,” Pope said.

Tickets will go on sale on Sept. 12. Prices range from regular admission at $40 to VIP admission at $100.
