MADISON – Rev. Brian Mayfield’s family loves Madison for its “many amazing people from so many incredible places.”

“There’s a small-town feel here, but it’s surrounded by such a great city as well,” Mayfield said.

The Mayfields moved to Madison in 2009 when he accepted the position of lead pastor at The Brook, which was ‘planted’ as a Southern Baptist church in 1998. “We are a church family on a mission — to live on purpose for Christ in our community and around the world,” Mayfield said.

Mayfield believes Madison “is a great place to raise your kids … not only for what is here — great recreation and outdoor fun, great schools, a strong sense of community and diversity and opportunities of all kinds – but also because of the accessibility to so many other great places like Birmingham, Chattanooga and Nashville.”

“Our kids love it here as much or more than we do,” he said.

Mayfield was born in Chattanooga and moved on his eighth birthday to Arlington, Texas.

After studying at Texas Technical University, he earned a bachelor’s degree in Biblical studies at Dallas Baptist University and a master’s degree in theology from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

His wife Morgan works as a self-employed speech language pathologist. Their children are Libby, 13, and Nathan, 10, who attend Providence Classical School. Their two dogs are Samson and Sullivan.

In civic duty, Brian serves on the executive board of the Madison Street Festival and coaches Hornets Baseball Club (11U). “Our family loves to eat out at Chuckwagon BBQ, Sam & Greg’s, and, of course, Main Street Cafe,” he said.

“Without a doubt, my favorite community event of the year is Madison Street Festival,” he said. Brian got involved on the committee because his family cherishes the festival so much. “I have loved seeing our church family become so heavily involved in serving together at the festival.”

The Mayfields enjoy outdoors adventures, taking trips and heading to the beach at every chance.
