MADISON – Lamb of God Lutheran Church at 11716 County Line Road is planning an out-of-the-ordinary event for families to enjoy.

The Lamb of God Renaissance Faire on Oct. 17 will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. “Visit our church campus for a storybook experience,” Rev. John Roebke said.

“This fun yet educational event will open your eyes to the world and work of Martin Luther, founder of the Lutheran Church, through interactive displays, crafts and a live performance by actors,” Roebke said.

The free, family-friendly event features medieval-themed crafts and games. Guests can experience an archery demonstration by Full Draw Archery or try geo-caching for a 21st-century treasure hunt.

Spirit Made Steel students will perform their martial arts skills. Steve Humphrey, a blacksmith, will show this trade’s process, and brewers will show the steps in making beer. Neon Lily Eastern European Food Truck and Gigi’s Cupcakes will sell concessions.

Children will enjoy the Jumping Castle ‘bouncy’ house, Jousting Pit’s inflatables and open crafts rooms in the church to weave flower crowns, decorate goblets and make fake ‘daggers.’ A trivia contest and a play presented by church members will entertain the audience.

First-responders from Madison’s fire and police departments will attend, as will Master Gardeners of North Alabama. LifeSouth Community Blood Centers will have a bloodmobile open for donations.

The church campus will be divided into sections for a welcome area, children’s amusements, food trucks, “1500s Live!,” archery, “Words not Swords” and crafts. Parking will be available at the rear of the church property.

The Lutheran denomination’s namesake originated with Martin Luther, born in Germany in 1483.

A typical service at Lamb of God Lutheran Church includes an invocation prayer, admitting sins, finding forgiveness, Bible readings, sermon, responsive readings and parting blessing. For the Children’s Sermon, Roebke invites the children to the front of the church for a brief lesson.

Sunday worship at Lutheran Lamb of God starts at 10:30 a.m. For more information, call 256-464-3900, email to office@lambofgodchurch.org or visit lambofgodchurch.org.
