Jets shut down Grissom

MADISON – The first chilly and rainy game of the 2015 season didn’t deter the James Clemens Jets in their 49-6 win against Grissom Oct. 2 at Milton Frank Stadium.
The first touchdown of the game came as starting quarterback Heath Burchfield (7) threw to Javan Henderson (28) for a touchdown captured in just six plays, and so on and so forth throughout the game, to put it lightly. The Jets went into the locker room at half time with 42 points on the board, allowing none to Grissom.
Not to be taken lightly were the penalties that plagued the team, especially in the first half. False starts and menial infractions against the defense were the main issue.
“Outside of the penalties, I thought our guys did a good job of focusing and handling their business tonight,” said Head Coach Wade Waldrop.
After a solid first quarter, familiar faces took to the sidelines as the coaching staff took starters out of the game and put in some lesser-known players.
“It was great,” Waldrop said. “There are a lot of guys that work really hard that don’t get a lot of recognition every Friday night because they don’t get a lot of playing time. They got to play tonight and did a good job.”
Some of those names not heard from week to week are Austin McGhee (16), who led the team in the game against the Tigers with 16 rushes for 78 yards and a touchdown. Bradley Goan (22) also came out to play with eight rushes for 64 yards and a touchdown.
