MADISON – A musical experience never heard in Madison will blast into town with the Youngblood Brass Band concert on Oct. 17.

Bob Jones High School Band is sponsoring Youngblood Brass in concert in Zompa Auditorium at 5 p.m.

Originating in Madison, Wis. in 2000, Youngblood now has members from across the United States. The band’s 10 members play drums, sousaphone, alto and tenor saxophone, bass clarinet, trombone and trumpet.

Youngblood defines its genre as ‘riot jazz.’ The band defies musical stereotypes to deliver a no-holes-bar performance. They liken themselves to a New Orleans brass band that transformed “into a punked-out hip-hop behemoth of groove and purpose.” (Facebook/Youngblood Brass Band)

Entertaining at sold-out gigs in more than 20 countries, Youngblood has completed numerous concert tours in this country and to global audiences. Release of their albums, including “Is That a Riot?” in 2007, expanded their reputation as the leading brass band in the world.

Concert tickets are $12 and available at showtix4u.com or at the event.

In addition, a Masterclass will be a highlight of Youngblood’s visit to Madison on Oct. 17. The Masterclass is free to observe and will start at 2 p.m. In this scenario, a Masterclass involves an expert (or experts) in the field of music instructing a session of advanced students.

Youngblood Brass Band often shares their time for these educational classes. At high schools and universities, they have offered workshops on New Orleans music history, jazz improvisation, hip-hop culture and creativity of live performance. Their contact with young musicians has elevated the band’s stature to cult status.

More information, visit youngbloodbrassband.com or Facebook/Youngblood Brass Band.

In addition, Bob Jones Band will host “March on Madison” on Oct. 13 at 6:30 p.m. in Madison City Schools Stadium. Bands from James Clemens and Bob Jones high schools and Liberty and Discovery middle schools will perform their marching shows.
