MADISON – Dr. Vytautas (Vito) and Jenny Pukis recently opened Blossomwood Medical in Madison after their medical practice outgrew their Huntsville location.

“We always loved the Madison area and people from there. We already had lots of patients from Madison. When the time came to expand, it was an easy decision to open another office in Madison,” Dr. Vito Pukis said.

Blossomwood Medical has a clinic in Arab and will open one in Decatur in November. The practice is opening a few smaller clinics for patients’ convenience in visiting their primary doctor closer to their home or workplace.

Blossomwood Medical is a primary care provider for internal medicine. “We treat diabetes, hypertension and all other internal medical conditions for adults,” Pukis said. Patients can have annual physicals, wellness and follow-up visits, medication refills, imaging for X-rays EKGs and blood draws.

“Our main priority is to treat our patients the same way as we would like to be treated ourselves,” Pukis said. “We are constantly researching for new improvements to give the best possible medical care to our patients.” Future plans include becoming “a medical house to monitor our patients’ health more closely and a chronic pain clinic.”

“Our Huntsville office is being ranked with the highest score by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama by random customer survey. Blossomwood Medical is part of the nurse practitioner education program and having students rotations from different universities,” he said.

Every day, Dr. Pukis admits, treats and attends to his patients at Huntsville Hospital and Crestwood Medical Center. Blossomwood Medical’s two nurses “are dedicated solely to talking with patients over the phone and helping them understand their present health situation and explain the next steps they have to take toward their recovery,” he said.

“Our patients know that if they get sick and need immediate assistance, they’re welcome just to walk in without an additional appointment,” Pukis said. “We’re doing our best to accommodate everyone who needs our help.”

Office hours are Monday-Wednesday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Friday, 8 a.m. to noon; and Saturday, 9 a.m. to noon. Blossomwood Medical accepts all insurance plans.

The staff includes Dr. Vytautas Pukis, internal medicine; Dr. Sharon Mbuko, internal medicine; Kathryn Limbaugh, Physician’s Assistant; and Barbara Hennigan, Sofia Harshfield, Brittany Lowman, Valerie Berry and Jenny Lee Southwood, Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP). In 2016, Dr. Melissa Deberry will join the staff.

The practice’s Blossomwood Foundation is a non-profit philanthropic organization with zero management and operations fees. All 100 percent of donations directly helps projects in rural Nepal.

Clinic addresses are 101 Ivory Place, Madison; 2121 Whitesburg Drive, Huntsville; 1952 Brindlee Mountain Parkway, Arab; and 1802 SW Presbyterian Drive, Decatur.
