Post season football honors roll in for Bob Jones and James Clemens
MADISON- Bob Jones placed six players on the All-State football team announced on Dec 26. James Clemens led all teams with seven.
Among first team selections were A.J. Harris of Bob Jones and linebacker Kyriq McDonald and defensive end Labryan Ray of James Clemens. All these players are juniors.
Harris recently picked up an offer from Vanderbilt while Ray and McDonald picked up offers from Kentucky. None are committed.
Harris had a stellar season leading the Bob Jones defense with six interceptions. He had two in the biggest game of the season against James Clemens including one in the end zone to seal the win.
“It’s a blessing, I give all honor to God for putting me in this position,” Harris said. “It makes me humble and hungry to get it again next year. I was pleased with my season but there are a couple things that I have to tweak for next season to make me complete.”
Harris started the season at safety where he has started since the first game of his freshman season. He moved to corner after the fifth game and went against the best receivers including another first team all-state player Chazz Garrett of Hazel Green.
Harris said he plans to play baseball for Bob Jones this spring before turning his attention back to football full time.
Named to second team were Bob Jones offensive lineman Tucker Walters (Jr.), kicker Matt Stephenson, defensive lineman Demarcus Clark, and running back Miles Strickland, all seniors. Quarterback Brady Polson (Jr.) was honorable mention.
James Clemens players on second team were running back Devon Atkinson (soph.), linebacker Monty Rice (Jr.), and athlete Maceo Booker.
Honorable mention from James Clemens were Michael Sharpley and offensive lineman Brody Collier, both juniors.
Surprisingly, Bob Jones junior offensive tackle Kendall Randolph was not named. Randolph holds offers from Alabama, Auburn, and Tennessee among many others.
“I’m very proud of our players that were recognized for their hard work and accomplishment,” Bob Jones head football coach Kevin Rose said.
