MADISON – Atlanta Guitar Trio will perform in the next concert in the “Music at Messiah” series at Messiah Lutheran Church, 7740 U.S. 72 W. on Feb. 14 at 4 p.m.

“Scott Plato, Adam Craighead and Bill Hearn have many decades of experience in guitar performance and as educators of guitar. They provide audiences with exciting, fun and entertainingly musical programs,” Messiah communications coordinator Meredith Kilby said.

The trio performs music from numerous eras. “Scott, Adam and Bill incorporate not only guitar but also guitar and mandolin, as well as guitar and theorbo,” Kilby said. “A theorbo or chitarrone is a lute with a long neck extension and two pegboxes.”

“During concerts, the trio entertains audience members with historical information on their musical instruments. They also provide historical insight into the composers and compositions,” Kilby said. (atlantaguitartrio.com)

Their varied repertoire includes Handel’s “Water Music,” Bach’s “Invention #13,” Mendelssohn’s “Italian Symphony No. 4 in A, Op. 90” and three Beatles tunes, including “Eleanor Rigby.”

“High quality, live classical music is a treasure that all ages can enjoy,” Kilby said. “Messiah’s concert space, coupled with its terrific acoustics, provides a perfect platform for musicians to personally connect with the music and the musicians.”

Music at Messiah is a “music outreach initiative, established to increase the appreciation for the beauty of classical music in our community. The concerts feature accomplished and up-and-coming professional musicians and informative printed programs. The concerts are free and open to the public,” Kilby said.

Now in its third season, Music at Messiah remains a self-supporting activity. Donations are accepted at the door, in addition to sponsorship and advertising program opportunities.

“Music at Messiah” chairman is John Shriver; director of music and treasurer, Lois Graff; public and musician relations, Bob Gustafson; communications and poster design, Meredith Kilby; publicity and legal, Dana Burton; graphic design, Taylor Burton; and community liaison Russ Leaphart.
