HUNTSVILLE – The Committee of 100 has elected John Allen and Charley Burruss to its rank.

The ‘committee’ is a group of 240 CEOs and professionals focused on economic development and public education.

The Committee of 100’s mission is to serve as a catalyst in stimulating Huntsville-area economic development by working with community partners to develop cooperative solutions, publicist Leah Hess said.

Allen, a resident of Madison, is president of Southern Construction & Design Inc. and will chair BizPac for 2016-2017.

Allen is a past president and a current life board member of the Huntsville/Madison County Builders Association. Currently, he serves on boards of Huntsville Botanical Garden, Huntsville Hospital Foundation and Madison Utilities.

In 2014, Southern Construction receives the Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics from the Better Business Bureau. In 2015, Allen was inducted in the association’s Hall of Fame.

“BizPac interviews all candidates for local office and supports those with a vision for economic development and public education, and a commitment to working with other elected officials for the benefit of our entire community,” Allen said. “We are eager to begin this process for the important elections in 2016.”

A Huntsville native, Burruss founded Kudzu Productions. Burruss, former BizPac Chair, said he’s eager “to work with our members, elected leaders and community partners to address key economic development issues and achieve excellence in public education.”

“Our organization remains a strong advocate for the highest level of local government cooperation because it results in economic development success for our community,” Burruss said.

Burruss has served on boards for Chamber of Commerce of Huntsville/Madison County, Huntsville Housing Authority and The Arts Council. He is a graduate of Leadership Huntsville/Madison County and Leadership Alabama. He served three terms on the BizPac Board.

In its mission, BizPac identifies, develops and encourages visionary, business-oriented candidates with a commitment to cooperative government to run for local public office.
