MADISON – James Clemens High School Band is sponsoring the “Run to London 5K” on May 7.

James Clemens Band is partnering with Iron Tribe Fitness to host the race. Proceeds will help to reduce the cost of the band members’ trip to the 2017 London New Year’s Day Parade.

“The Lord Mayor of Westminster, England, and the Executive Director of London New Year’s Day Parade came to James Clemens High School in 2015 to present the official invitation for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” assistant band director Stuart Tankesley said.

“We’re honored to represent our community in a parade attended by 500,000 people and broadcast to countries around the world,” Tankesley said. “The trip’s cost is approximately $3,500 per student.”

“We’ve worked with Iron Tribe Fitness to design this race and reduce the cost of the trip,” he said. Keith Anderson is director of bands at James Clemens.

Run to London 5K will start at 8:30 a.m. on May 7, with the start and finish line at James Clemens High School, 11306 County Line Road. The route winds around the school’s campus.

“This race will be a little bit different than your standard 5K run,” Tankesley said. Entrants can choose between two race divisions, Tribe 5K or Run to London 5K. Tribe 5K will be built into the 3.2 miles around James Clemens campus with four workouts that runners must complete before proceeding.

These workouts will be placed strategically along the race route to amplify the challenge of a standard 5K. Workouts will posted on the eventbrite registration page three weeks before the event.

The Run for London 5K option involves 3.2 miles of road course with no workouts.

All entrants will receive race bib and chip for timing. A Matter of Timing will chip-time the race. Results will be posted as runners cross the finish line.

To register, visit eventbrite.com and search for “Run to London 5K” or visit goo.gl/kWm6Qg. Entry fee is $38.

“After the race, don’t feel like you have to rush home,” Tankesley said. “There will be food and music at the finish line.” For more information, email manager Blair Morris at bmorris@irontribefitness.com.
