Food Truck Round-Up revs up downtown Friday

MADISON – Downtown will be filled with tantalizing tastes and aromas at the inaugural Food Truck Round-Up on April 1.

The food and fun will begin at 5 p.m. Todd Seaton with Old Black Bear Brewing Company at 212 Main St. in Madison is coordinating this new event.

As of March 29, food trucks that have confirmed to attend are Rollin Lobstah, I Love Bacon, Brain Freeze, Fire & Spice, Regale Cupcakery, Piper & Leaf, Sugar Belle, Flat Top Burgers, Iceworks, The Food Truck, Doctor BBQ and Neon Lilly Cafe on Wheels.

“The trucks will be disbursed in the back parking lot of Old Black Bear and along our driveway to the brewery,” Seaton said. In addition, guests will find food trucks in the gravel parking lot behind Jaclyn’s Keepsakes and along Wise Street. “Any extra space needed will go up to the parking lot of The Barn on Short Street.”

“When I got word that the city didn’t want to go forward with the first Food Truck Round-Up, we thought it was best to take it upon ourselves to make it happen,” Seaton said. “We are trying to bring business and traffic to an area that needs revitalization, and these events will ultimately be good for the city and its residents.”

Coinciding with the round-up, Madison Station Historical Preservation Society members will open the Roundhouse on Front Street for tours. Many vintage photographs and memorabilia of the city’s history are on exhibit upstairs at the Roundhouse. Local historian and society member John Rankin will attend and sign his works about the history of Madison.

The following morning on April 2, Old Black Bear will hold “The Makers Market” for local craft vendors to sell their products. “We will have up to 17 vendors in our back patio set up from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday this spring and summer,” Seaton said.

Seaton and other organizers hope that later this year the Food Truck Round-Up “will grow these events to the point they will have to move onto Main Street and expand beyond our capacity. It’ll be awesome for downtown!” Seaton said.
