MADISON – Any chance of an aftershock, any hint of hangover on the part from the James Clemens High School softball team after it rose to the top of the state’s Class 7A rankings, was sufficiently squelched.

The Jets moved two spots to the school’s first No. 1 ranking May 30 following an impressive two weeks, then responded with an 8-2 victory over Sparkman and a 9-0 shutout of crosstown rival Bob Jones 9-0.

James Clemens stood 30-5 after defeating the Patriots, having won 23 of 25 games, 14 of 15 and eight straight and stayed at No. 1 in the latest poll.

The Jets improved to 4-1 in 7A, Area 8 with the victory over Bob Jones. Winning pitcher Emily Jacklin (18-1) went all seven innings, allowing six hits with three strikeouts and no walks.

Caroline Payne went 3-for 4 with two doubles and two RBIs to lead the Jets offense. Shelby Booker was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Aubri James 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Lila Young, Jordan McMeans and Mary Kate West each added two hits in a 1-hit attack.

Taylor Weddington was 2-for-2 for Bob Jones.

In the win over Hartselle, Emily Jacklin went all seven innings in a one-hitter and struck out seven.

McMeans had an RBI hit and Laura-Lin Chaffin two RBIs for James Clemens.

The Jets are travelling to play in Beauregard’s Lady Hornet Invitational at the Auburn Softball Complex.
