MADISON – The girls’ soccer teams at Bob Jones High School are making a difference on and off the field.

The varsity and junior varsity soccer teams at Bob Jones collaborated to raise $1,035 for a donation to Huntsville Hospital Foundation.

For their game against Grissom High School on March 29, the Patriot soccer teams donated all proceeds from sales of custom-designed T-shirts for cancer awareness, along with entry fees to the night’s soccer games.

Members of the soccer teams felt that conducting a charity event was important so they could support of a cause that had recently impacted their team (or team’s family members), a spokesperson said. The girls embraced the idea of donating to a local charity where they knew their small contribution would have an immediate impact.

Charissa Roth, Bob Jones varsity soccer player, presented a check for $1,035 to Huntsville Hospital Foundation representative Emily Taylor. The Bob Jones students donated the funds to the oncology department of Huntsville Hospital and in support of March 2016 as Cancer Awareness Month.

In addition to raising funds for Huntsville Hospital’s Oncology Department, a special pre-game ceremony honored those individuals who have been affected by cancer, either directly or indirectly.
