Athlete of the Week

MADISON – Softball has played an important component in Caroline Payne’s high school career.

Payne, a senior, has played the position of shortstop for the softball team at James Clemens High School. Payne’s field stats and playing record earned her a scholarship to Shelton State Community College.

She owns a career batting average of .349 with an on-base percentage of .437. She has totaled 74 runs batted in (RBI) and 50 stolen bases.

She also has participated in the Jets Cheer Squad at James Clemens. “We did a lot of volunteer work for cheer and for softball over the years. We have volunteered at the Miracle League,” Payne said. Miracle League of North Alabama provides opportunities for individuals with disabilities to play Miracle League sports.

Her parents are Richard and Luanne Payne. Caroline’s four siblings, from oldest to youngest, are Lauren, Emily, Abbey and Ellie Payne. “Ellie attends Liberty Middle School, and my older sisters are all in college.
