Clark’s Army service covered Europe, Middle East

MADISON – Retired Command Sergeant Major Angel C. Clark was born in Cleveland, Ohio but grew up in Tuscumbia.

After graduating from Deshler High School, she studied two years at Alabama A&M University before entering the U.S. Army in Florence in 1982. Clark attended Basic Training at Fort Jackson, S. C. and Advanced Individual Training at Redstone Arsenal. At graduation, she was awarded MOS 55B10, Ammunition Storage Specialist.

Clark’s extensive assignments started with 664th Ordnance Company, Fort Hood, Texas. She was deployed with HHC 101st Ordnance Battalion in Germany and returned to Redstone. She served in Korea and stateside at Hunter Army Airfield, Ga.

Additionally, Clark was in Miesau, Germany three years. After time at Fort Hood, she returned to Korea with 2nd Infantry Division. Back at Hunter, she served with 3rd Infantry Division.

Next, Clark was deployed to Camp Humphrey, Korea. She returned to Redstone with C Company.

As Command Sergeant Major, Clark worked with Joint Task Force East in Romania and Bulgaria. She deployed to Iraq with Desert Shield/Desert Storm, Egypt to support Bright Star and Afghanistan with Operations Enduring Freedom.

At retirement on Feb. 1, Clark had the longest, continuous service for enlisted females on Active Duty (33 years, 1 month, 28 days).

Clark is the only enlisted female in Ordnance Corps to serve at nominative, General Office level. She also served as Squad Leader, Section Chief, Platoon Sergeant, Instructor/Writer, Battalion and Brigade Ammunition NCO, Division Ammunition Manager, First Sergeant, Brigade and Joint Task Force CSM.

Her awards include Legion of Merit (2 OLC), Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (3 OLC), Army Commendation Medal (5 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (6 OLC), National Defense Service Medal (2 Bronze Stars) and Southwest Asia Service Medal (3 Bronze Stars). Among many honors, Clark received the Ordnance Order of Samuel Sharpe Award.

Clark earned a bachelor’s degree from Excelsior University, is pursuing a master’s degree and is enjoying a few months off before starting a second career.

She holds membership in Redstone Arsenal’s Sergeant Major Association and Community Women’s Club. Clark volunteers at her church and with feeding homeless individuals. Her hobbies are gardening, cooking and decorating.

In 2011, she moved into her Madison home. Clark’s daughter Candy and 16-year-old granddaughter Leighana live in Huntsville.
