MADISON – Two churches in Madison will present Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University (FPU).

At First Baptist Church of Madison, 4257 Sullivan St., classes will begin on June 1 at 6 p.m. For more information or to register, call Carrie Dickerson at 256-772-9437.

Restoration Church, 5810 Wall Triana will open classes on June 15 at 6 p.m. For information or to register, call Anthony Steele at 256-652-5743.

The nine-week course provides families and individuals with practical tools to gain control of their finances and set themselves up for long-term financial success. The course meets once a week with Dave teaching a different on DVD, followed by small-group discussion.

Lessons include budgeting, relationships and money, getting out of debt, saving for emergencies and investing. The recorded lessons include guest speakers Rachel Cruze, Ramsey’s daughter, and Chris Hogan, counselor for Ramsey’s organization.

Through common-sense principles and small-group accountability, Financial Peace University gives people the necessary tools to change their behavior and succeed financially, according to the company’s press release. On average, families who complete the series pay off $5,300 and save $2,700 in the first 90 days.

Ramsey knows first-hand the pain that financial stress can cause. After creating a net worth of more than $1 million by age 26, he quickly lost it all. Since then, Ramsey has helped families and individuals across the country learn how to get control of their finances and avoid debt so they don’t have to experience the same pain he did, the release stated.

Ramsey has authored five “New York Times” best-selling books: “Financial Peace,” “More Than Enough, The Total Money Makeover,” “EntreLeadership” and “Smart Money Smart Kids.” “The Dave Ramsey Show” has more than 11 million listeners on 550-plus radio stations and digitally through podcasts, online audio streaming and a 24-hour online streaming video channel.
