Vets can qualify for free furniture

MADISON – Veterans moving into new housing can qualify for free furniture.

Veterans of North Alabama Services Assistance Program (VON-ASAP) has coordinated this offer with Redstone Hotel.

This offer is currently underway. The household furniture and supplies that are available are an assortment of couches, dressers, end tables, coffee tables, nightstands and linens.

“The entire stock must go,” CEO Jane Dow said. “We will provide household furniture for veterans moving into new housing.”

Veterans can come to Veterans of North Alabama’s center at 1004 Jordan Lane, Suite 7 in Huntsville. Telephone number is 256-585-3475. “The veterans will need to fill out paper work to qualify and to arrange a delivery date and time,” Dow said.

Currently, Redstone Hotel is constructing a new hotel and contacted Veterans of North Alabama about donating furniture.

Throughout June, Dow and Moses Nervis, the volunteer staff and Two Men and a Truck have been responsible for moving furniture to Madison Bonded Warehouse, U-Locked storage and Advantage storage. Providing furnishings for veterans in need is one example of Veterans of North Alabama’s vital missions.

“Veterans of North Alabama Service Assistance Program encourages the veterans to remain in housing rather than returning to the homeless environment by providing everything they need to cook, eat, sleep, shower, and relax.” Dow said.

“If you are looking for ways you can help, you are in luck,” Dow said. The organization needs volunteers to help pack dishware items and veterans’ belongings from their apartments into storage. “Equally important, we can definitely use any money donations for the truck moving costs.”

Formed in 2012, Veterans of North Alabama is a non-profit organization formed to support to veterans and their families who are in need of referral assistance and help them meet their basic needs.
