MADISON – John Seifert has entered the race for District 7, Madison City Council.

“Our city needs leadership dedicated to serving others above all and being part of a team. I learned a long time ago that a lot can complain about problems but the real way to solve something is to be part of that solution,” Seifert said.

“I want to put our city first and make it better for our families and, most importantly, our children,” Seifert said. “We must leave things better for our future generations.”

Seifert said his campaign is focused on improving school funding, quality of life and economic development for smart. city growth. He also wants traffic congestion reduced and “our first responders to have the right leadership and resources to perform their duties.”

Residents “deserve constructive communication and teamwork within government. Our current lack of ability to come together hasn’t enabled the city to be on as strong of footing as it could be. If elected, I’ll work with all elected council and mayor to ensure we do just that,” Seifert said.

“We want to get back to a vision where our government communicates and works together as team with one thing in mind — what’s best for the city and its citizens,” he said.

Seifert earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mechanical engineering at Auburn University.

The Seiferts moved to Madison in 2004 for “the school system and a desire to start and raise a family here. My wife earned a job in Madison City Schools in 2003,” he said. They wanted their children to “receive a quality education in a safe environment.”

Heather Hulsey Seifert teaches second-graders at Rainbow Elementary School. Heather is an Enterprise native; John is from Ozark. Their seven-year-old son, John ‘Drew’ Seifert III, is a second-grader at Columbia Elementary School.

John works as a senior program manager “responsible for providing leadership and setting overall program vision(s)” at Scientific Applications International Corporation (SAIC).

John’s hobbies are golf, beach vacations with family, coaching youth baseball, volunteering at Asbury’s Children’s Ministry and co-chairing Columbia’s Watch DOGS (Dads of Great Students) program.
