MADISON – Len Bullington entered the District 4 Councilman race when Mike Potter did not seek re-election. “I decided to ask Madison residents to allow me to serve them again,” Bullington said.

During his previous term, Bullington and the council saw the property tax increase approved to form Madison City Schools, a collaboration with Madison County Schools to build Bob Jones High School and Horizon Elementary School and development of Dublin Park. Madison Public Library and Fire Station 1 were built.

“The city has been floundering for the last couple of years. I want to utilize my prior experience on City Council, 1992-1996, to get the city back on track,” Bullington said. “I hate to see taxpayer money wasted.”

Bullington wants more shops and restaurants in Madison so residents won’t spend tax dollars in Huntsville.

He cited work on County Line Road. “Why such large walkways on both sides of the road, yet no center turn lane all the way from Highway 72 to Madison Boulevard?”

“Madison needs a north-south roadway without added school zones. We need to extend and widen Balch Road south to Westchester Drive,” he said.

“Madison needs to replace the department heads on administrative leave. We’ve been talking about payment in lieu of taxes from TVA for over 20 years with no resolution in sight,” Bullington said. He wants Madison to create its own electric utility to purchase power directly from TVA.

Madison’s two major needs are “aggressive economic development … and a solution for the property/education tax issue with Limestone County,” Bullington said.

“My work experience as a Huntsville firefighter for 32 years allows me to know better than any other candidate how the city operates,” he said.

He and wife Patricia have lived in Madison since 1985. Their daughter Kristin Jones Ott and husband Matt Ott, a Huntsville police officer, live in Madison with one son and daughter.

Currently, Bullington works part time at Larry’s Pistol and Pawn. “I do have time to invest to be a city councilman,” Bullington said.

Bullington asks District 4 residents to call 256-651-6453 or email LBULL@knology.net.
