MADISON – For the second consecutive year, Lamb of God Lutheran Church will present a Renaissance Faire.
The free, family-friendly event features medieval-themed crafts and games. The event on Lamb of God’s campus at 11716 County Line Road on Oct. 22 will run from 10 am to 2 p.m.
“This fun yet educational event will open your eyes to the world and work of Martin Luther, founder of the Lutheran Church, through interactive displays, crafts and a live performance by actors,” Rev. John Roebke said.
Guests can experience an archery demonstration by Full Draw Archery or try geo-caching for a 21st-century treasure hunt. The local club of Amtgard will demonstrate their live-action role play with swords, sorcery and hands-on archery.
Traditional European food will be available for purchase from Neon Lilly Eastern European Cuisine and other food vendors.
Children will enjoy play on a ‘bouncy castle’ and other inflatables and working with crafts. A troubadour and other live performers will entertain the crowd.
A bloodmobile will be onsite to recruit people to donate blood. “You will also have the opportunity to browse a multitude of vendors selling their wares,” Roebke said.
“We have invited a professional storyteller named Daniel Dexter, a youth minister from El Paso, Texas to perform. His unique talent is to memorize entire books of the Bible and then recite them word for word in dramatic fashion,” Roebke said.
Describing his ‘scripture storytelling,’ Dexter said, “‘Memorization’ sounds boring, but it depends on what you are memorizing … and what you do with it.” His technique is not a dry recitation nor an actor’s performance.
“Daniel calls it a ‘living proclamation’ that aims to treat the listeners as participants, giving them a feel of what it may have been like to hear and see the words and works of God through the apostles and prophets,” Roebke said.
Dexter also will perform during Sunday worship on Oct. 23 at 10:30 a.m.
