MADISON – For Peggy Robinson, relocating to Madison three years ago was the best move that she could have made at this time in her life.
“I have started a new life alone after 55 years of marriage. I moved from Decatur, having lived there for 42 years, leaving my friends and church family behind,” Robinson said.
“I still miss all my friends there,” she said. “We moved to Decatur in 1968 to get our special son in the Lurleen B. Wallace Center.”
After her husband passed away, she moved to Madison to be near her daughter and her family. “I was fortunate enough to find a house three doors down from my daughter in a very quiet neighborhood with wonderful neighbors,” Robinson said.
After her move, she soon joined Madison Senior Center and now goes almost every day. Robinson has made many friends there.
“I have a group of ladies and we go out to eat at different places every Saturday,” she said. “Then, we go to each other’s houses and play cards.”
For Robinson, the senior center has been a lifesaver. “It keeps me busy. I am involved in crafts, games and ceramics. It’s good to keep our minds busy,” she said.
After classes at the center, she has learned a new skill set by trying ceramics. “I have learned to make things that I thought I could never do, which gives me pride in myself,” Robinson said.
She attends Madison Church of Christ, which is her church family. “Members greeted me with open arms and made me feel at ease and gave me a sense of belonging,” Robinson said.
Robinson has become involved in Bible classes, the “Young at Heart” group and as a greeter to welcome guests. “The Young at Heart group has an outing once a month, and we take trips. I love my new church home, as well as living here in Madison.”
“Madison is a great place to live. I would recommend it to anyone. It’s convenient to everything … close to the airport, shopping centers, grocery stores, restaurants, doctors and a hospital,” Robinson said.
“I love being here because people are so friendly,” she said.
