MADISON- Gadsden City came into Madison Friday night with a losing record but left with a 46-41 win over Bob Jones. The loss marks the first home region loss in the Kevin Rose era (eight seasons) after 26 straight home wins over region opponents.

The loss means Bob Jones (5-3, 3-2 region) will finish anywhere from second to fourth in the region race depending on James Clemens game at Hewitt Trussville on Oct. 21. Bob Jones will face Buckhorn in what is now a must-win game on Friday night.

Brady Polson again had a huge game throwing for 336 yards on 21 completions with 4 four touchdown passes. But a costly interception in the third quarter allowed Gadsden City to regain the lead and momentum.

Defensively Bob Jones gave up huge chunks of yardage to one of the best backs in the state, 3-star prospect Damon Williams who finished with 220 yards rushing on 22 carries. Williams was elusive slipping first tacklers and getting to the second level.

Gadsden City dominated the first half and built a 20-7 lead before Bob Jones struck with two touchdowns before halftime. Polson hit Brad Anderson on a 42 yard touchdown pass and Milkhi Stewart from 17 yards to make it 27-21 at halftime.

Isaiah Hatchett caught a 15-yard touchdown pass to give Bob Jones the lead with eight minutes left.

But Gadsden City drove 80 yards in the fourth quarter all on the ground to retake the lead for good. Polson drove the Patriots to the 15 yard line but his fourth down pass to Demontrez Brown fell incomplete.

“We’re not getting off the field on third down,” Rose said. “We got them in some third and longs but they converted. It’s a combination of everything, obviously 46 points is too many to allow. We have a lot of areas to improve on. Its disappointing to lose two games but the season is still in front of us. We’re still fighting to get in the playoffs and at that point everybody has an equal chance.”

Offensively Bob Jones has scored 90 points the last two weeks, both losses however. The defense also failed to come up with a turnover in the game.

Going back to the James Clemens game in week two Bob Jones has gotten away from running the ball. They gained only 108 yards in the Gadsden City game and lost the time of possession and that is contributing to problems on defense.

“Don’t get discouraged, don’t get down, learn from this and move on,” Rose told his players. “The difference in winning and losing this game was one play. Use this as stepping stone to be a better football team.”

Milkhi Stewart had 11 catches for 136 yards and one touchdown.
