MADISON – Dr. Michael St. Peter joined the U.S. Navy in 1998. Leaving the service, he had reached the rank of Petty Officer Second Class.

St. Peter completed Basic Training in Great Lakes, Ill. He then went to Nuclear Power School in Charleston, S.C., a two-year school at which he learned to operate nuclear reactors.

“I was then stationed onboard the USS Greeneville, a Fast Attack nuclear-powered submarine based in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. I spent three years there and then got out of the Navy,” St. Peter said.
In 2011, St. Peter moved to Madison after graduating from optometry school. “We chose Madison because my wife works for NASA,” he said. His hometown of Bardstown, Ky. recently was voted as the most beautiful small town in America.
St. Peter earned a bachelor’s degree in biology at the University of Central Florida. He graduated from optometry school at the University of Houston, College of Optometry. Currently, he works as an optometrist at EyeCare Associates in Madison.

His wife Beth works as an electrical engineer at NASA and currently is working on imagery analyses and design for the heavy lift rocket. “We have four daughters – Emily, Savannah, Lyla and Madelyn,” he said.

Michael St. Peter is a member of Rotary Club of Madison. “We go to Honduras every year to perform eye exams for people in remote villages there,” he said. He is a parishioner at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
St. Peter’s hobbies are hunting, fishing, kayaking, hiking and playing guitar.
