MADISON- With two weeks left in the regular season James Clemens posted a 21-14 win over Buckhorn on Oct. 14 while Bob Jones blew out Grissom 51-6.

All eyes are on James Clemens (6-2, 5-1 region) this week as the Jets travel to Hewitt Trussville (9-0, 6-0 region) for a game with major playoff implications including the region championship at stake.

A visit from Auburn coach Gus Malzahn on Friday set the stage as Labryan Ray and Monty Rice, both holding offers from Auburn, led the Jets defense against Buckhorn. An interception by Torolla Walker in the final minute sealed the win.

James Clemens got a big game by Jamil Muhammed who led the offense to a 21-7 lead. Bradley Belt ran six yards for the first score then Muhammed hit Collin Brown for a 22-yard touchdown pass to make it 14-7 at halftime.

“I’m really proud of the offensive line,” James Clemens Head Coach Wade Waldrop said. “We ran the ball well. Austin Mcghee was a spark for us running the ball. He had different gear and was seeing the cuts better. Jamil played great, took care of the ball, made some plays when we were under duress and had good command of the team.”

Mcghee scored on a 6-yard run in the third quarter to make it 21-7.

Kyriq McDonald sat out most of the game and Zach Hopkins got playing time filling in for McDonald.

“Zach played well, he is a sophomore and going to be a good football player. We’re trying to develop some depth. We will take care of the guys at practice this week and we are excited to go down and play for a region championship,” Waldrop said.

Waldrop said McDonald was “not in the mix tonight” but he expects him to play at Hewitt-Trussville.

The Jets will need everyone on defense to try and contain the highest scoring offense in class 7A. The Huskies average 50 points per game.

Meanwhile Bob Jones got a 75 yard punt return for a touchdown by Brad Anderson and also scored on a blocked punt return by Jay Hawthorne and Patriots quarterback Brady Polson threw a 56-yard touchdown pass to Demontrez Brown as Bob Jones won easily over winless Grissom.

Bob Jones (6-3, 4-2 region) hosts Buckhorn this week then have an open date. If Hewitt Trussville defeats James Clemens and Bob Jones defeats Buckhorn the Bob Jones and James Clemens would finish in a tie for second place in the region and a home playoff game.
