MADISON – After an impressive record of service from 1974 to 1999, Albert ‘Al’ Turner retired from the U.S. Army as a Colonel.
Turner graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in June 1974.
He attended Field Artillery Officers Basic Course at Fort Sill, Okla. During his career, he completed assignments in Baumholder, Germany; Fort Sill; Camp Gagetown, Canada; Fort Riley, Kan.; Fort Leavenworth, Kan.; Camp Casey, Korea; Fort Lewis, Wash.; Fort Stewart, Ga.; Newport, R.I.; Fort Monroe, Va.; and the Pentagon.
Turner earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering and master’s degrees in strategy and tactics; management; and strategy and policy.
His wife Joyce is originally from Salem, Mass. Their daughter Megan also lives in Madison.
The Turner family moved to Madison when Northrop Grumman transferred Colonel Turner to manage various programs in Huntsville. After 16 years,
he retired Northrop Grumman in 2015. “I work part time at Home Depot for fun,” he said.
He volunteers with Care Assurance System for the Aging & Homebound (CASA) to install mobility aids for senior citizens and individuals with a disability. He serves as Military Emeritus Docent at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center. Turner is a member of Rotary Club of Madison.
In spare time, Turner pursues woodworking and “golf at the hacking level.”
