MADISON COUNTY – Currently, about 1,800 customers with Huntsville Utilities remain without electricity after damaging, overnight storms on Nov. 29.
“We also have outages, mostly smaller/isolated in nature, in every corner of Madison County at the moment (hsvutil.org/outagemap/),” Director of Communications & Public Relations Joe Gehrdes said.
“Crews and Dispatch are doing their best to work their way through the area addressing the outages that affect the most customers first and balance that with working their way through the county geographically,” Gehrdes said.
Currently, most of the large outage areas have been addressed. Now, crews will begin addressing the smaller, more isolated areas. With daylight and improving weather crews are can assess damage and make repairs more quickly.
“Some customers have been out for over 14 hours by now, and we want them to know crews are out there and working as quickly and safely as they can,” Gehrdes said. “It’s very dangerous work that they do, and they take a lot of pride in rapid restoration, but they have to be safe.
Gehrdes urges individuals to avoid any downed or damaged power lines and utility infrastructure. Anyone with a portable generator should not ‘backfeed’ the generator through their electric panel.
