TROY – A student at Troy University, Cassidy Counter has been named to “Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.”
“Who’s Who” recognizes juniors, seniors and graduate students who have excelled in campus leadership and in their academic area. School officials base their selections on academic standing, community service, leadership ability and potential for continued success.
Counter said her scholarship to Troy was a major incentive to enroll there. “But I definitely fell in love with the campus when I toured. The size and campus life seemed like a perfect fit and I was right.”
At Troy, she participates with Baptist Campus Ministry, Residence Hall Association and Alpha Lambda Delta. “I volunteer through the Baptist ministry. We do work with the Boys and Girls Club and Noble Manor” assisted living facility, Counter said.
Her major is economics with a minor in philosophy. “I have enjoyed all of my classes within my major. They challenge my way of thinking, and I have learned so much from them,” Counter said.
“The professors in the economics department love what they teach, and it’s fun to learn from someone who is passionate about what they are doing,” she said. After graduation from Troy, Counter wants to attend law school, possibly focusing on immigration law.
Her father, Douglas Counter, works as an engineer for NASA. Her mother, Garnet Jones, is a Captain with Huntsville Fire Department. Cassidy’s siblings are Delaney, 19, Carson, 18, and Dalton, 16.
Troy Chancellor Dr. Jack Hawkins Jr. and Troy First Lady Janice Hawkins honored Who’s Who recipients with a reception at the chancellor’s residence.
Troy University is a public, historic, international university with more than 145,000 alumni. On-campus students enjoy a traditional college experience, while working adult students attend classes in Dothan, Montgomery, Phenix City and online venues.
