MADISON – On Jan. 10, organizers at Dublin Park will conduct open registration for Spring 2017 Swim Lessons for children and teenagers.
Registration will run from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Registration fee is $30 per child.
Swimming classes range from two to three days per week in daytime or evenings. Each class (Levels 1 through 4/5) will have 12 students maximum, two instructors and one lifeguard.
For Infant and Pre-School Aquatics, six-month-olds through three-year-olds are eligible. Parents must be in the water with their child. Children will learn water entry, bubble blowing and underwater exploration.
Level One starts at three years old. This class will help children who are frightened of the water, who cannot swim without constant assistance or both situations.
This group will learn basic safety rules for water. Children will enter/exit the water independently and fully submerge their face while blowing bubbles. Instructors will introduce rotary breathing and alternating arm action. They will learn to float and kick while supported on their front and back.
In Level Two, children will float independent and glide unsupported on front/back. Instructors will teach front and back crawls, unsupported and supported. Children may explore deep water with floatation support.
Level Three is geared for additional swimming skills. Children will do back crawl and elementary backstroke for 10 yards. Instructors will introduce treading water. Students will attempt to dive from poolside while kneeling. They also will coordinate arm stroke for front crawl with breathing to the front and perform front/back glide with push-off.
Level Four/Five includes rotary breathing, deep-water exploration and bobbing. Students will perform front/back crawls, breaststroke and elementary backstroke. Instructors will introduce sculling, sidestroke, breaststroke, butterfly and surface dives.
Session One will include infant-preschool, Level One and Level Two from 6:15 to 7 p.m. on Jan. 24, 26 and 31 and February 2, 7 and 9.
For Session Two, classes in Level One, Two and Three will practice from 6:15 to 7 p.m. on Feb. 21, 23 and 28 and March 2, 7 and 9.
Session Three with Level One, Level Three and Level Four/Five will meet from 6:15 to 7 p.m. on March 21, 23, 28 and 30 and April 4 and 6.
Each year, Dublin’s certified lifeguards teach more than 1,500 lessons. For information, call 256-772-9300.
